A Winner, More Paleo Resources in the World, More Great Giveaways, and BREAKING NEWS!
Posted by Jules on Aug 6, 2012 in Book review, Out of the kitchen | 3 commentsGood Monday morning Paleo Comfort Foods’ friends! It’s a short week here, as I (Julie) am heading up to the Ancestral Health Symposium in Boston this week, and Charles has a boys’ weekend. If you’ll be at AHS, let me know in the comments if I’ll be seeing you! I love getting to put faces with names, and can’t wait to see a bunch of friends from all over the world at this annual event! I’ll be tweeting as much as possible, but highly suggest you look for the hashtag #AHS12 for tweets from people who are much faster than me!
Let’s cut to the chase here – lots going on that we wanted to share!
1.) WINNER! Thank you all for supporting Sweet Potato Power and entering the contest! Please do share this awesome resource with those you know. Congratulations to Matt Cassel(man?) – you are the lucky winner of your own copy of Sweet Potato Power. Be on the lookout for an e-mail from us!

2.) By now you should have a plethora of paleo/primal resources on your bookshelf (The Paleo Solution, The Primal Blueprint, It Starts With Food, Paleo Comfort Foods of course!, Everyday Paleo, Well Fed, Make It Paleo, The Paleo Diet, Eat Like a Dinosaur, and more – and of course the Nom Nom Paleo iPad app!), and there’s a new one you need to add: Practical Paleo by Diane Sanfilippo. Many of you know Diane from her Balanced Bites website, and this book is just like her site: practical, approachable, and full of goodness (we’ll be doing a full review of her book once we get through our backlog of reviews in the coming weeks). Her book comes out this week and we highly suggest getting it!
(Note: if you have not purchased any of these books and you do use the links above to make a purchase, we do receive a small commission. This helps us do things like pay shipping costs of stuff, keep this website running, and do what we can to come up with new recipes that will keep you all happy!)
3.) We’re working on some special giveaways in honor of next month’s 1 year anniversary of the release of Paleo Comfort Foods (you all have helped our book remain one of the top 100 cookbooks of ALL cookbooks on Amazon for over a full year! Thank you sooooo much!), but until then, here are a few giveaways from other sites to tide you over:
WIN It Starts With Food from The Ivey League!
WIN Practical Paleo from the Contemporary Cavegirl!
WIN TX Organics grassfed meat and a Royall 1000 Wood Pellet Grill from George Bryant of the Civilized Caveman
Soapbox moment: You all know that one of the best things about the paleo/primal lifestyle is the community aspect and that we’re all supportive of one another. Please go and support these bloggers/authors/friends who are spending hours upon hours upon hours to help this community grow and be stronger. It’s what I loved about AHS last year, was getting to meet other people who just want to help others live healthier lives. And we as bloggers/authors/friends can only be effective if YOU help spread the word about any and all of us. So please do your part to support and help spread the word!

No, it's not a Wheat Belly...
4.) BREAKING NEWS! Well, it’s now on Facebook, so I suppose that means it’s true…Coming to our world in December is our paleo baby! As you might recall from this post, we had a rough start to the year. You all were so great and supportive through that time, and that love and support meant the world to us. We’re beyond thrilled to share with you that we’re almost 22 weeks cooked (just about 18 weeks to go!), the baby is looking great (and very active in utero), and for the most part, we’ve been smooth sailing. The hardest part is finding time to research/read up on all that I suppose I should know come birthing day (on top of other reading/working responsibilities)…but heaven knows that won’t be possible (to know everything). I’m happy to share as much information about this paleo pregnancy as you all would like, so by all means feel free to ask questions! We’re actually on week 4 of our Whole30 here, so you better believe I’ll have a write-up about the Whole30 Knocked Up edition. Thank you all for the love and prayers and genuine support…we feel very blessed and fortunate to be able to get pregnant so quickly, and ask that you all continue to send strong thoughts and prayers in the universe for those who are having their own challenges or going through their own losses. It meant the world to us and carried us through a really rough time…and we just want to pay it forward as much as possible. We’ll keep you up to date on how we’re progressing, and can’t wait to share the news of Baby Mayfield’s arrival with all of you! Here’s his/her video debut. Sound effects provided by Buzz, the snoring English Bulldog. The kicker (click on the words to view – you’ll see why it’s called the kicker right at the end).
Hope to see lots of you in Boston at AHS, and until then – thank you ALL for the support!

Wow, that is breaking news!! Congratulations to you both! I am so happy for you and look forward to hearing all about Baby Mayfield’s arrival! If my calculations are right, we’re looking at somewhere around New Year’s Day!?
