"And that's the whole film: scary images, compelling language, and the illusion of certainty and data, when in fact, there is none. Go ahead and eat your eggs, dairy and meat, folks, because there's no sound evidence to show that these traditional, whole foods are bad for health." ... See MoreSee Less

Here's a little glimpse at what's been going on in our day-to-day lives. Taking that whole #pasturetoplate thing to heart! Feel free to follow us at @mayfield.pastures ###Posted @withrepost • @mayfield.pastures Sometimes I (Julie) play farmer while Charles is out of town (doing things like deliver 200# of pork to @chefrichardsb)...and I take over his Instagram. A few of this sights and chores from today:1. Bringing the chickens some kitchen scraps.2. Keeping my eye on a hawk as it eyes some new farm residents (more on that later).3. Opening up a new paddock of grass for our cows (listen to them devour it)!###We (the kids and I) will collect eggs later this afternoon and will check the turkeys' feed and water supply.###That all sounds relatively easy and glamorous...but let me tell you that a ton more goes into and has gone into getting these systems in place. ###That egg mobile didn't build itself, and the areas where the cows are had a LOT of work done to get there (go Charles!)! Oh and such tasks are a lot less fun in the pouring down rain or 100 degree heat.###Many thanks to our buyers club members who support this way of farming and who appreciate what it takes to grow your food!###.....#mayfieldpastures #knowyourfarmer #pastureraised #grassfed #holisticmanagement #regenerativeagriculture #fieldtoplate #pasturetopiehole ... I do not claim that any food or food group is evil. Certainly some have more nutrient density than others. That said, sugar is pretty problematic (and sugary foods hyperpalatable) in today's world. While fat and red meat were often cited in the news as public enemies #1 and 2, I suppose it's refreshing to hear that consumers (in this case 48% of those polled) seem to be opening their eyes and focusing a bit more on sugar as the problem. Wonder if #sugarlesssaturday or #nosugarsunday will become things like meatless Monday? http://mobile.foodnavigator-usa.com/Trends/Sugar-reduction/… ... See MoreSee Less

American Comfort Food- TASTE TEST- Part- 1
Indian, Spanish, and Russian trying American Comfort Food. did they like it??
"In one study, participants who increased their protein from 15 percent (the average American’s intake) to 30 percent of total calories naturally reduced their overall caloric intake and saw significant weight loss. Another study showed that high protein intake reduced LDL (bad) cholesterol and reduce abdominal fat. In those with type 2 diabetes, high-protein diets (25 percent—32 percent of caloric intake) led to weight loss and lower blood pressure and HbA1C levels, the long-term measure of blood sugar. High-protein diets have also been shown to be beneficial for bone health. Eating too little can lead to fatigue, weight gain, and hair loss."Meat - it does a body good! ... See MoreSee Less

Anyone out there find relief/cure/help from doing something others have said was "quackery" or "not scientifically proven?" *A few months after our second was born, I had debilitating pain in my neck/back/shooting down my arm. I went to one chiropractor I had seen during my pregnancy with no significant relief, then to an orthopedic specialist who put me on a physical therapy regimen. Nothing was helping and the pain was so bad I was fearful picking up my children (and two pain-med-free births, I can say I have a high pain tolerance)! Then I recalled a chiropractor who specialized in "orthospinology." After a few visits, the pain was pretty much gone. Nothing else had changed. No drugs. Nada. There are no published studies in JAMA or anything like that to say that this technique works for neck and back pain, but it worked for me. *When you read stories like Dr. Terry Walls', it really begs the question of "why not try?" Especially when all else fails, or certainly when there's not a huge financial risk in giving another approach a shot (e.g. Eliminating gluten containing grains, dairy, refined foods to see if that might alleviate certain ailments). *"What if you or your child had a chronic illness that seriously limited or threatened life, and modern medicine had no effective or acceptable treatments to offer? Would you be willing or desperate or brave enough to step outside the realm of established medicine and seek help from an unconventional therapist — even someone with no medical or scientific training? What if you heard about others in a similar situation who had tried a purported remedy that appeared to work, or the method seemed to make biological sense?" ...
